HALF DAY PARTY BOAT

1/2 Day Departure Times

Half Day charters depart at 7 am daily across our entire fleet of fishing vessels. This trip departs from San Diego Bay or Mission bay and has a total duration of up to six hours. The travel time to and from the fishing spots is under 40 minutes, and the this trip runs year round.  This trip does not require a passport.

Destinations

You will be fishing the local kelp beds and rock piles all the way from the USA side of the Mexican border, to La Jolla. Your Captain will know where to take you, as he runs almost every day. Over the course of a single trip you may try 2 or 3 different spots, time and weather permitting.

What can you expect to catch on this trip?

It is actually safe to say, "you never really know". I have seen some big fish caught on a half day. Depending on the season, there are lots of different species. Summer time is mostly calico bass, sand bass, barracuda, dorado, sheeps head, yellowtail, lingcod. In the winter its mostly rockfish, halibut, calico, sandbass,  sheeps head, lingcod, and the occasional yellowtail and shark.

What kind of fishing will we be doing?

On the half day summer trips, you will be fishing both top and bottom. As you nestle up close to the kelp beds, you can opt to throw live bait or jigs at the surface, or you could also choose to fish the bottom with a lead weight.  All of our rod rentals use 15-25lb test, and we recommend that if you bring your own tackle, that you bring this setup.

Summary

This is a great trip for kids or beginners. Target species are easy to catch, trip is short. Most popular trip we offer.

3/4 DAY PARTY BOAT

3/4 Day Departure Times

3/4 Day charters depart at 7 am and returns at  4pm daily across our entire fleet of fishing vessels. This trip departs from San Diego Bay or Mission bay and has a total duration of up to nine hours. The travel time to and from the fishing spots is about 1 hour, and the this trip runs year round.  This trip does not require a passport.

Destinations

During the summer you will be fishing the nine mile banks. These banks are approximately 14 miles from the bait barge. If the banks are not holding, alternate destinations include the kelp beds that line the coast all the way to the border. During winter, you will still target the nine mile bank as your top destination, but also consider alternatives like La Jolla, or the U.S. side of the border. Additionally, every captain has his secret winter spots.

What can you expect to catch on this trip?

During summer months we specifically target Bluefin, Yellowfin, Dorado, Yellowtail at the nine mile bank using sight fishing and trolling techniques. During the fall , winter, and spring, you will be targeting yellowtail, rockfish, halibut, lingcod, shark, bass, and sheepshead.

What kind of fishing will we be doing?

Summer months see this trip only targeting pelagic species. Trolling, patty hopping, sight fishing, irons, and live bait are the order of the day. If you are not renting a rod and reel from us, bring at least a 25lb test reel with good line capacity for this trip. If you have heard that tuna are in the area, bring the biggest rig you have.

Fall, Winter, and Early Spring will see our fleet focused primarily on bottom fishing. Typical depths are between 50 and 250 feet, so if you want to bring your own rod and reel, keep that in mind. Winter months will see us rock fishing, and a two speed reel is recommended.

Summary

The results of this trip vary greatly depending on the time of year that you go. For pelagic species you should choose a date range within JUNE to OCTOBER.  If you want to chase giant halibut, lingcod, yellowtail... and get buckets of rockfish for tacos, then NOVEMBER through MAY are the best time of year to go.

No matter which time of year you sign up for, the nine hour duration allows for a greater range, the ability to check more spots, and more time with your friends out on the ocean!

During the summer you will be fishing the middle banks. These banks are approximately 25+ miles from the bait barge. We will be in US waters the whole time, although we my plot a course close by. The fishing will start at the nine mile bank, and continue from there all the way to the middle banks about 10 nautical miles west. During winter, you will still target the nine mile bank as your top destination, but also consider alternatives like La Jolla, or the U.S. side of the border. Additionally, every captain has his secret winter spots.

This is specifically a TUNA trip, specifically yellowfin and bluefin tuna. If we catch something else, it was an accident. Bring heavy gear with heavy line, you will need it. We recommend at least a 30-50 wide with a solid drag. If you dont have this equipment just let us know and we will be happy to rent you the needed tackle for $25/day.

During this trip we will be sight fishing, trolling, patty hopping, watching for sonar marks, and foaming fish. Additionally, we also employ KITE FISHING and HELIUM BALLOON FISHING. This adds great to our success rates and we are one of very few fishing charters to offer this on an open party charter.
